05 How to create logos

No branding is complete without a logo. So the next series of videos are going to be logo, design the process and what you need to do in order for you to have a beautiful logo. So to get things started, let’s start by going through the logo rules. So yes, a logos have rules, too. It needs to be easy to remember and easy to understand.

As you’re designing your logos, you have to use symbols, which are not difficult to construct. So I’ll give you some examples and show you why it’s important to design your logos that way. Now, when I was, designing websites for my clients a few years ago with my design agency. I used to get this question all the time.

Why don’t you make my logo bigger? The logo itself, although it’s important, it, it shouldn’t be overpowering on your website. I had to really go through a lot of convincing to get all these clients to understand that the logo is there, but it shouldn’t be overpowering on the main page of the website or even throughout the whole website.

The next rule of a logo design is scalability. The logo itself needs to be able to scale. So you need to be able to use it on a very, very small space or even on a, a massive, massive scale. This is also very important when you design your logos. Now, a lot of people trying to design logos, which are very complicated.

So what you find is when you try to make them smaller, especially to fit on your website. It’s very difficult to have it the right size because it starts to lose its form and it starts to get deformed or even sometimes even lose the detail of the actual logo. So it’s very, very important that you have a logo that is scalable.

It needs to work on all sizes. So let’s move on to the next one. And this one here is also very, very important, and this is versatility. Your logo needs to be able to. Pretty much on any background. It needs to work on white, on black, black, on white. It’s also needs to be easy to print on different mediums.

So for example, if you want to have it on a coffee mug, it needs to be easy to do that also on a t-shirt. It also needs to be easy to put on a letterhead and pretty much on any type of media. These are the main things that really make your logo very, very professional and make it really stand out. And the last one.

Simplicity, your logo needs to be very, very simple. Now, a lot of people, as I mentioned earlier on, they liked designing logos, which are very complicated. That is not the way forward. Now let’s take a look at some of the logos, which are quite simple and easy to look at. Here you can see I’m sure you know, most of these logos here, we have the Nike, the famous Nike swoosh.

We also have Exxon, apple of course target. Now I really like target because this is very basic it’s shapes and these are the shapes that form the logo. And also FedEx here. I don’t know if you can note, if you can see this, but there’s an arrow between the X and the. As a negative space right there.

That was quite clever to design the logo that way. And as you can see here, IBM is just lines, but these are very, very simple logos and they’re also very memorable. This is what you need to do when you design your logos for your own company or even for your clients. Let’s move on to the next one.

Now these are also other logos that we want to take a look at now. Look at PayPal, Netflix, Spotify, Google. In fact, look at the Microsoft one. That’s just four squares. I mean, that is amazing. Look at MasterCard two circles merging together. So as you can see the concepts of logo design, Have to be very, very simple and they have to be versatile.

So now the question is what type of font should you use for creating your logos? Now there’s also a psychology behind the fonts that you use to design your logos. Now let’s take a look at that. So, first of all, when you take a look at the set of fonts, these are mainly used, for something that needs to convey tradition, it can also be a respectable or reliable.

And it also can convey some sort of comfort. So this is a very, very good logo to use. And, I would highly recommend that if you want to create a website, which has these type of aspects, you need to be looking at a serif font. Now let’s move on to the next one. Now, the next. He is a creative one.

Script can also convey elegance, affection and creativity. You may find this in fashion. So this is where you’d normally find it to convey creativity and also elegance. Now let’s move on to the next one. And this is my favorite and this is Sans serif. Sans serif stands for stability objective, it’s clean, it’s modern.

When you design your logos, you need to have these keywords in mind. What type of brand are you trying to create? And these are the fonts that also work well with the type of brand that you you’re trying to design. In the next video, I’m going to be going through the process of looking for inspiration online to help me design my website.

All right. See you in the next video.
